Welcome to Dolce!I am so pleased to be working with such wonderful singers! I wanted write a few lines to introduce myself to you. I have been a music educator for 20 years. During that time I have taught elementary general music for 10 years and am currently in my 10 th year in higher education. At the University of Nevada , Reno , my main teaching area is teacher preparation—I work with students preparing to be music educators in the public schools. My husband is the Director of Choral Studies at UNR so choral singing is very important in our family! I have an 8-year-old daughter, Kathryn, who is a member of Dolce and a 5-year-old son, Jacob (perhaps a future member of SNCC). And, our most recent addition to the family is our cat, Teeka. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the members of Dolce and look forward to making great music! Kathleen Jacobi-Karna |
Our Board of DirectorsHello all you wonderful singers and parents from the SNCC Board of Directors. We met for the first time on Wednesday, October 25 and have some things to share with you. First, the current board is made up of the following members: Barbara King , a UNR employee working in the area of Academic Intervention. She was heavily involved with the University of Indiana Children 's Choir, one of the top in the nation, when her children were young; Kim Steinkellner , mother of Chris, a Dolce singer, organizer and volunteer extraordinaire; Ana Flores , mother of Megan Urbano, singer in Bel Canto. She and her husband have their own business in Reno , and she is good with numbers, and so is the treasurer; and myself, Jennifer Tibben-Lembke . Kathleen Jacobi-Karna and Sue Goodenow act as ex-officio members of the board . Promotion and FundraisingWe will be sending home ticket packets with each child after rehearsal on November 15 . There will be several things in the packet:

Welcome to Bel Canto!I am excited to be directing Bel Canto Choir! For several years I have been attending the American Choral Director's annual conventions and observing concerts given by the best choirs in the United States . The children's choirs are always my favorites because of their beautiful vocal sound, and the energy in their performances. For years I have dreamed of bringing a children's choir program to Reno , so Sierra Nevada Children's Choir is really a dream come true! When I'm not directing choirs or playing the piano and organ, I love to be outside involved in active pursuits. My favorite activities are bicycling, hiking, water and snow skiing, camping, and backpacking. I have been married for 21 years to Rew, and we have four daughters aged 18, 16, 13, and 13 (yes, twins!). My daughters also love music. There are times when we all go to separate corners of the house to practice, and Rew and the dog have to endure the sounds of piano, oboe, flute, saxophone, French horn, organ, singing and piccolo! If there are questions/concerns for which I can be of assistance, Please call me at (851-2716) or email: fourggirls@sbcglobal.net I want SNCC to be the best possible children's choir program, and with your help, we will continue to meet and exceed our goals! Sincerely, Sue Goodenow |
