How We Got Here
Sierra Nevada Children’s Choir (SNCC) was was the dream of Judy Monson, Jennie Tibben Kathy Jacobi-Karna and Sue Goodenow. Bella Voce Women’s Ensemble assisted in the formation of the choir in 2006. The choir program began with two choirs (3rd-5th grade and 6th-8th grade) and grew to include singers in 1st-12th grades. Sue retired in 2018, and other directors joined the choir to take over the choirs that were led by these talented founding directors. The choir went on hiatus starting in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, Marie Haws started the wheels turning to reinstate the choir and begin the process of building the choir up again.
Our choir currently recruits singers in 3rd-8th grade. Our singers attend schools throughout northern Nevada. Choir members rehearse together at a local church each week. Our musical repertoire is a variety of music from classical, folk, pop, and musical theatre genres written or arranged for children’s voices.
